Calsence is a wellness and nutrition application that helps people log meals, estimate nutrition from food photos, track water and weight, follow plans, view activity summaries, and use AI-assisted coaching features. This Privacy Policy explains what information Calsence collects, why it is used, when it is shared, and the choices available to you.
This Policy applies to the Calsence mobile application, calsense.app, and related support and backend services. It does not replace the privacy terms of Apple, Google, OpenAI, or another service you choose to use with Calsence.
Key Points
- Calsence uses account, profile, meal, activity, and preference information to provide personalized wellness features.
- Apple Health and Health Connect access is optional, read-only, and controlled through your device settings.
- Food photos and AI prompts are sent through Calsence backend services to produce estimates and guidance.
- Calsence uses Firebase services for authentication, cloud data, file processing, notifications, analytics, crash reporting, and service security.
- Calsence does not sell personal information and does not use health information for advertising.
- AI calorie, nutrition, diet, and coaching outputs are estimates and are not medical advice.
- You may request deletion of your account and associated data at calsense.app/delete-account.
Information We Collect
Account And Sign-In Information
When you register or sign in, we may process:
- Email address, display name, profile image, Firebase user identifier, and account creation or last-sign-in information.
- Authentication provider information when you use email and password, Sign in with Google, or Sign in with Apple.
- Security and authentication records needed to keep your account signed in, prevent abuse, and recover access.
Calsence does not receive your Google or Apple account password. Password-based credentials are handled by Firebase Authentication.
Profile, Goals, And Preferences
To calculate targets and personalize the app, you may provide:
- Age, gender, height, current weight, goal weight, activity level, workout frequency, and fitness goal.
- Daily calorie and macro targets, meal preferences, hydration settings, and reminder preferences.
- Diet preferences, allergies, foods to avoid, schedule choices, and plan settings.
- Notification, language, theme, and other app settings.
Some profile fields can be sensitive because they describe your body, habits, or wellness goals. You choose whether to provide optional information, but some features cannot work without the inputs they require.
Meals, Nutrition, Water, Weight, And Progress
When you use tracking features, Calsence may store:
- Foods, portions, meal type, date and time, calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, notes, and related meal details.
- Custom foods, recently used foods, favorites, and manual corrections.
- Water entries, hydration goals, reminder schedules, and daily hydration summaries.
- Weight entries, progress history, daily health summaries, streaks, and calculated progress metrics.
- Generated diet plans, plan preferences, reports, saved status, and completion information.
Calculated values may be derived from the information you provide. For example, Calsence may estimate daily energy needs or remaining calories from your profile, goals, logged food, and activity.
Food Photos And AI Food Scan Data
If you take or choose a meal photo, Calsence processes the image to estimate visible foods, portions, calories, and nutrients. The current flow:
- Accepts supported JPEG, PNG, or WebP images within the app's upload limits.
- Uploads the image to a private, user-scoped temporary location in Firebase Storage.
- Sends the image through a secure backend to the OpenAI API for visual analysis.
- Validates and resolves the returned food and nutrition information before showing it to you.
- Attempts to delete the temporary uploaded image after the scan finishes or fails.
Calsence may retain the derived scan record, such as detected components, estimated nutrition, confidence indicators, model information, confirmation status, error status, and whether you reported the result. The app does not need to keep the original meal photo as part of the completed scan record. Temporary copies may remain for a limited period in service-provider systems, operational logs, or backups.
Meal photos can accidentally include faces, documents, locations, or other background details. Only upload an image you are authorized to use and avoid including unnecessary personal information.
AI Coach And Generated Plans
When you use the AI Coach, Calsence may send your message, a limited amount of recent conversation context, and selected profile context such as your fitness goal, calorie target, and gender to the OpenAI API. When you request an AI diet plan, Calsence may also send age, height, current and goal weight, activity level, workout schedule, dietary preferences, allergies, excluded foods, and calorie target.
AI outputs and related usage records may be stored so Calsence can display the result, enforce usage limits, investigate errors, and improve feature reliability. Do not include information in an AI prompt that is not needed for your wellness request.
OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models unless the API customer affirmatively opts in. OpenAI may retain limited abuse-monitoring logs, including customer content, for up to 30 days unless a longer period is required by law or different approved data controls apply. Food Scan and AI Coach requests are configured not to create persistent model response storage. Generated-plan requests and provider security or abuse-monitoring systems may still follow the provider's default retention controls.
Apple Health And Health Connect
Health integration is optional. If you connect it and grant permission, Calsence reads only the activity types needed for its user-facing progress features:
- Steps.
- Active energy or active calories burned.
- Walking or running distance.
- Exercise time or activity-intensity minutes, depending on platform support.
Calsence uses this information to display daily activity totals and progress summaries. It stores daily summaries and connection metadata rather than copying unnecessary raw health event records. Manual entries from other sources may be excluded where the platform provides that distinction.
Calsence requests read access and does not write health records to Apple Health or Health Connect. You can disconnect the integration in Calsence and revoke access in Apple Health or Health Connect settings. Deleting Calsence data does not delete the source records maintained by Apple Health, Health Connect, a wearable, or another health app.
Health information is not used for advertising, marketing profiles, or data-broker activity.
Notifications And Device Information
If you enable notifications, Calsence may process:
- Firebase Cloud Messaging token, app installation or device identifier, platform, app version, locale, notification preferences, and last-active timestamps.
- Delivery, open, campaign, and engagement information needed to send and measure service notifications.
- Local reminder schedules for meals, water, workouts, or daily check-ins.
You can change notification permission in device settings and adjust available reminder settings in the app.
Analytics, Crash Reports, And Technical Data
Calsence uses Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics to understand app use and fix reliability problems. Depending on platform settings and consent requirements, this can include:
- App launches, screen or feature interactions, update prompts, and other product events.
- App installation identifiers, device model, operating system, locale, app version, approximate region inferred from network information, and timestamps.
- Crash stack traces, exception messages, performance context, memory or disk state, and diagnostic breadcrumbs leading to a failure.
Calsence is not designed to put meal text, health values, passwords, or full AI prompts into analytics event names or Crashlytics custom logs. Firebase states that Crashlytics crash traces and associated installation identifiers are generally retained for 90 days before removal begins.
Website And Server Logs
The Calsence website may process standard request information such as IP address, browser or device type, requested page, referrer, and timestamp through its hosting and security providers. This is used to deliver pages, prevent abuse, and diagnose availability. The website stores your light, dark, or system theme choice locally on your device. Calsence does not currently use the website to collect meal or health entries and does not use advertising cookies.
Support Requests And Reports
If you contact support or report an inaccurate or unsafe result, Calsence may collect:
- Your account email, display name, ticket subject, category, description, and status.
- Screenshots or other supported image attachments that you choose to upload.
- Related scan context, only when you choose to share it.
- App version, build number, platform, operating-system version, device model, locale, and other diagnostics, only when you consent to share diagnostics.
Support attachments are stored in a user-scoped location. Do not submit passwords, payment-card details, government identifiers, or unrelated health records in a support request.
Subscription And Transaction Information
If paid features are offered, purchases are completed by Apple App Store or Google Play. Calsence may receive product, entitlement, subscription status, expiration, platform, and transaction-reference information needed to unlock features and prevent fraud. Calsence does not receive your complete payment-card number from the app store.
How We Use Information
Calsence uses information to:
- Create, authenticate, protect, and support your account.
- Provide meal logging, nutrition estimates, hydration, weight, activity, plans, coaching, reports, reminders, and progress views.
- Personalize targets and recommendations using the profile and preferences you provide.
- Process food images and AI requests, validate results, apply limits, and respond to reports.
- Sync approved activity summaries after you grant health access.
- Send requested reminders, account notices, support updates, service messages, and mandatory app-update notices.
- Diagnose crashes, monitor service performance, prevent misuse, enforce limits, and secure backend services.
- Administer purchases and entitlements when paid features are available.
- Comply with law, resolve disputes, and enforce the Terms of Service.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on performing our agreement with you, your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing Calsence, and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent for optional permissions, but withdrawal does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful.
When Information Is Shared
Calsence does not sell or rent personal information. Information may be disclosed only as needed to operate the service or meet legal obligations:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud: authentication, database, storage, cloud functions, app integrity checks, push notifications, analytics, and crash reporting.
- OpenAI: food-image analysis, AI Coach responses, and generated plan content.
- Apple and Google: sign-in, app distribution, purchases, notification delivery, and optional health integration under your platform choices.
- Operational service providers: vendors that host, secure, monitor, or support Calsence under appropriate contractual and confidentiality obligations.
- Legal and safety recipients: authorities, advisers, or affected parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud, or respond to a valid legal request.
- Business transfers: a successor involved in a merger, financing, reorganization, or sale, subject to continued protection and notice where required.
We may use aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you for analytics, reliability, research, and product improvement.
International Processing
Calsence and its providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. Firebase Authentication is operated from United States data centers, while other Firebase and cloud services may use global infrastructure. Data-protection rules in those locations may differ from those in your country. Where required, Calsence will use recognized safeguards for cross-border transfers.
Retention
Retention depends on the type of information and why it is needed:
- Account, profile, meal, plan, progress, settings, and derived scan data are generally kept while your account is active and until deleted under this Policy.
- Food-scan images are intended to be temporary and are deleted from the Calsence upload location after the analysis attempt. A failed cleanup may require automated or administrative removal.
- AI providers may maintain abuse-monitoring data for the period described in their applicable API terms, generally up to 30 days by default.
- Crashlytics generally keeps crash traces and associated installation identifiers for 90 days before deletion begins.
- Support, security, fraud-prevention, entitlement, and legal records are kept only as long as reasonably needed for the relevant purpose, dispute, or legal obligation.
- De-identified or aggregated information may be kept when it can no longer reasonably be linked to you.
- Backup copies may remain until they are overwritten through normal backup cycles, with access restricted and no use for unrelated purposes.
When you submit a verified account-deletion request, Calsence aims to complete deletion or de-identification within 30 days unless retention is legally required, necessary to protect the service or users, or technically delayed by secure backup cycles. More detail is available at calsense.app/delete-account.
Your Choices And Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, receive, restrict, object to, or delete personal information, withdraw consent, and complain to a data-protection authority.
Available controls include:
- Edit profile, goals, preferences, reminders, and logged entries in the app where controls are provided.
- Revoke camera, photo-library, notification, and health permissions through device settings.
- Disconnect Apple Health or Health Connect in the app and manage health permissions in the platform's settings.
- Request account and associated data deletion at calsense.app/delete-account.
- Contact support at calsense.app/support for access, correction, privacy, or consent questions.
We may need to verify identity before fulfilling a request. Some information may be exempt from a request where law permits or requires retention. We will explain a material denial where legally required.
Account Deletion
Deleting the mobile app does not delete your Calsence account. A completed Calsence account deletion is intended to remove or de-identify the Firebase Authentication account and associated profile, meal, scan, plan, progress, device, notification, and settings data, except information that must or may be retained as described above.
Account deletion does not automatically cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription, and it does not delete data held independently in Apple Health, Health Connect, an app store, an identity provider, or another service. Follow the instructions at calsense.app/delete-account before submitting a request.
Security
Calsence uses measures designed to protect information, including authenticated user access, Firebase security controls, encrypted network transport, user-scoped storage paths, backend validation, App Check on supported operations, rate limits, and restricted administrative access. AI provider credentials are kept on backend services rather than embedded in the mobile app.
No online service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your device and sign-in methods secure, do not share verification codes, and contact support promptly if you suspect unauthorized access.
Children
Calsence is a general wellness service and is not directed to children under 13 or the higher minimum age required by local law. If you are not old enough to consent to processing in your country, use Calsence only with authorization from a parent or legal guardian. If we learn that a child provided personal information without required authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Third-Party Services
When you use Apple, Google, OpenAI-supported features, an app store, Health Connect, Apple Health, or a linked service, that provider also processes information under its own terms and privacy policy. Calsence is not responsible for data a third party collects independently from its direct relationship with you.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this Policy when features, providers, laws, or data practices change. The updated version and effective date will appear on this page. If a change materially affects your rights or how sensitive information is used, we will provide additional notice where required.
